Green Pioneering
Our briefing was to create an impactful new company and brand identity that would become first-to-market in renewable fuels (HVO diesel) in Taiwan. We had to move fast, establish a strong foothold, and develop an agile business strategy that could be adapted to a very diverse and rapidly changing, brand-new market.
At the time, renewable fuel was an unknown commodity in Taiwan and relevant regulation and government support were nonexistent. The state-owned oil company had a virtual monopoly and sold cheap subsidized regular diesel to a traditional-minded SME market that was only slowly becoming aware of the importance of sustainability and ESG.
HVO renewable diesel was expensive, unknown and treated with suspicion – but it could provide a urgently-needed solution to the high cost of rapid fleet electrification and increasing ESG demands from international partners.
With only a small team, we created a convincing and alluring brand identity and developed the marketing collateral to educate the markets and turn ESG and sustainability into a strong value proposition for a wide range of users.
At the same time, we jumpstarted the legislative process by mapping out the regulatory landscape, starting a dialogue with all key decision makers and obtained ISCC certification. Our flexible and lean MarCom strategy was used to approach 800+ leads with sector-specific collateral.
From Bulb to Brand
Raider was a typical Taiwanese family business. An early success in the emerging ODM LED lightbulb manufacturing decades ago, its iconic chairman was now facing a bottomed-out, saturated market for bulbs and an ever-increasing demand for different LED products. The next generation leaders needed to pivot the company fast to prevent it from sinking – but how?
Light bulbs were a classic commodity: interchangeable, price-driven, and function-focused. Now, the company had to pivot to integrated LED fixtures that differentiated through design, brand, and user experience.
Raider’s next products would have to become part of a curated consumer environment, while the traditional LED market share had to be preserved to secure cash-flow and industry relevance.
We vertically introduced customer-centric thinking as the company’s new DNA and developed a brand-portfolio mentality. R&D priorities were brought into line with customer demands and new product stories were expressed through design, identity and packaging, allowing Raider to become a category captain managing assortments, shelf layout, pricing guidance, and replenishment for retailers.
We created a portfolio of easy-to-manage sub-brands and products, together with the necessary MarCom collateral to launch them in existing and new (international) markets. To ensure continuity, we turned the original brand into an “umbrella” brand, positioning it as a modern solutions-provider in the LED market instead of a traditional manufacturer.
